Over the past year, since launching as DO AI, we’ve been dedicated to enhancing our intelligent assistant for DSE English writing. We’ve introduced numerous updates and optimizations, such as increasing note space, enabling students to add school and personal learning goals, and refining question categorization for greater precision. DO AI has officially been renamed CoRight AI, with the goal of perfecting the application of generative AI to education over the next five years. The Beta version, which has been freely🆓 available since February 2024, has already provided feedback on thousands of English writing pieces, offering users insights and suggestions.
Based on conversations between students and CoRight AI, the three most commonly requested topics were:
1. Grading of English Writing Paper Part A;
2. Grading of English Writing Paper Part B; and
3. Assistance with brainstorming essay topics.
It’s evident that students need feedback aligned with DSE grading criteria to evaluate their performance during self-study sessions. CoRight AI provides immediate scoring for essay exercises based on the topics submitted by students. Without any waiting, students can understand their writing level. CoRight AI also highlights strengths and weaknesses, offering targeted suggestions for improvement.

For day school or tutorial teachers, the detailed evaluation reports generated by CoRight AI might be surprising, as this level of feedback is usually only possible during one-on-one instruction.

CoRight AI tailors its feedback to students of varying proficiency levels. High-performing students receive recognition for their strengths and a summary of their achievements, while students with lower proficiency are provided with suggestions for improving their ideas and expression. The teaching is customized to students’ scores, ensuring effective learning for individuals at different starting points.
When it comes to brainstorming essay topics, CoRight AI offers diverse perspectives and guidance, exposing students to various arguments and helping them align their essays with the given topic. This aids students in developing a deeper understanding of essay prompts and becoming familiar with the analysis process.
In the process of reviewing and grading essays, CoRight AI frequently identifies grammatical and lexical errors. Common grammar mistakes include subject-verb disagreement and tense confusion, while lexical errors include inappropriate word usage and misspellings, affecting the flow and clarity of essays. CoRight AI pinpoints each error and suggests correct expressions.

To facilitate error review, we’ve introduced a "Personalized Review Sheet" feature that compiles issues identified by the AI into flashcards for review.

Moreover, CoRight AI provides suggestions for essay structure, focusing on ensuring coherence in line with the DSE grading criteria for organization.

Some students might opt for widely-used AI tools such as POE and ChatGPT. How do they compare to CoRight AI?

Both POE ChatGPT 4.0 and CoRight AI provide scores and comments based on the three grading criteria. However, CoRight AI additionally offers improvement suggestions tailored to DSE candidates. As CoRight AI is specifically designed for DSE preparation, its materials and instructions cater to the needs of Hong Kong students. For students and teachers who struggle to find or train AI tools that precisely address local needs, CoRight AI serves as an effective solution.
CoRight AI has also introduced OCR functionality, allowing handwritten essays to be converted into text. Students can directly upload images of their drafts for text recognition, significantly reducing the time spent on marking handwritten essays. CoRight AI can even recognize messy handwriting, though users are advised to proofread the converted text for minor errors like punctuation or typos to avoid grading inaccuracies. The built-in OCR feature on the CoRight AI website eliminates the need for external tools, streamlining the entire process.

CoRight AI will continue to be available for free to DSE candidates in the coming year, promoting self-learning and supporting students in achieving their academic goals. By encouraging self-study, CoRight AI aims to alleviate the workload of school and tutorial teachers. As previously mentioned, timely feedback is crucial for students to understand their progress and make adjustments, while teachers may not always provide detailed evaluations and suggestions outside school hours.
CoRight AI assists students anytime, anywhere, while also reducing teachers’ workloads and improving their grading efficiency. We hope CoRight AI can serve schools and tutorial centers as well, combining teachers’ expertise with CoRight AI’s capabilities to deliver precise teaching. This collaborative approach helps students achieve progress and excel in both school examinations and the DSE.
