Life, to Alex, is composed of tiny but memorable moments. The challenges he has faced have boosted his morale to pursue the best. So, if you don’t mind, he’d love to take you on a brief journey through some of the experiences that have played a significant role in shaping who he is today.

The Seed That was Planted During His Primary School

Alex's passion for learning, leadership, and innovation truly began during his primary school years. Even as a child, Alex was naturally drawn to roles that allowed him to organize and create, but he never considered himself exceptional—just enthusiastic. For example, when he became the Leader of the 3C Reporter Group, it wasn’t because he sought to lead, but rather because he enjoyed the process of documenting and sharing stories. This role required him to work with his peers in reporting on school events, an experience that, in hindsight, taught him much about the importance of communication and collaboration. These were simple lessons at the time—how to bring people together, how to ensure tasks were completed—but they were lessons that would quietly influence his approach in later projects and ventures.

In addition to these early leadership experiences, Alex’s primary school years also sparked his interest in media and technology, though he didn’t realize it at the time. He began to explore videography, learning to capture and edit videos, not because he had any grand ambitions, but because it was fun and intriguing. One particularly memorable moment was when he recorded views at Tsim Sha Tsui—a small project that, unbeknownst to him, would ignite a passion for visual storytelling. This early exposure to media production was simply a hobby back then, but it would later serve as a foundation for his work in education and media services, where he would combine technology with storytelling to create impactful learning experiences.

At the same time, Alex participated in the TVB Environmental Car Design Competition during his primary school years, which further fueled his innovative spirit. During the competition, Alex put in a tremendous amount of effort to make his environmental car run faster. He continuously researched ways to reduce wind resistance and gravity and ultimately decided to modify the car to be more streamlined and to use low-density eco-friendly materials to lighten the car's weight. These modifications resulted in improved speed and performance during the competition, ultimately helping Alex win the championship. This experience provided Alex with valuable insights into the importance of innovation and hands-on experimentation, setting a solid foundation for his future academic and entrepreneurial pursuits.

Hands-On Experiences in Innovation Contests During Secondary School

During his secondary school years, Alex's journey was defined by a series of trial and error experiences, his participation in competitions, and a deepening commitment to leadership and innovation. One of the most notable aspects of Alex's secondary school experience was his involvement in leadership roles, particularly as the Vice President of the Green Team Society and the Physics Lab Leader during Info Day. As Vice President, Alex led initiatives to promote environmental awareness within the school, organizing campaigns that required persistence and adaptability. These efforts taught him how to navigate challenges, refine his approach through feedback, and ultimately make a tangible impact. Meanwhile, his role as Physics Lab Leader during Info Day deepened his understanding of physics and enhanced his communication skills. Explaining complex scientific concepts to visitors helped him learn how to simplify ideas and engage with a broader audience. Both roles reinforced his passion for education and technology, shaping the way he approached future endeavors in these fields

Competitions were another area where Alex’s commitment and resilience were put to the test. He participated in various contests, which were both a source of inspiration and a platform for him to apply what he had learned in the classroom and through his extracurricular activities. A notable example is when he served as the team's main speaker in the HKSSF Public Speaking English Contest. Despite his diligent preparation for the competition, he could only secure the runner-up position in the end. These competitions were not without their challenges, and Alex faced his fair share of setbacks. However, each competition, whether he won or not, provided him with valuable lessons in perseverance, teamwork, and the importance of continuous improvement. The experiences he gained from these competitions reinforced his belief that success is often the result of learning from failures and trying again with renewed determination.

Through the ups and downs of his journey, Alex learned that true success comes from a willingness to take risks, learn from mistakes, and stay committed to one’s goals.

Expanding Horizons Through Higher Education

Alex’s journey continued at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), where he pursued a BBA in Global Business and Information Systems at the School of Business, graduating as part of the Class of 2019. During his undergraduate years, Alex's interest in entrepreneurship began to flourish. He interned at various technology companies and participated in entrepreneurship competitions, which helped him build his business acumen and reinforced his desire to use technology for meaningful impact.

One particularly formative experience during his time at HKUST was his participation in the HKUST Hackathon, where he competed in the Healthcare Category. In the weeks leading up to the 24-hour hackathon, Alex conducted extensive research on the challenges deaf individuals face in daily life, particularly in recognizing sounds that could signal danger. He gathered insights from various sources, including interviews with individuals from the deaf community. Armed with this knowledge, Alex tirelessly to implement a solution that would help deaf individuals identify alarming sounds in their environment. The app he designed used live demos and animations to showcase its capabilities, which impressed the judges with both its practicality and the care with which it was crafted. Alex’s ability to pitch the app effectively, combined with the thoroughness of his design, ultimately led him to win the Champion title in the Healthcare Category.

Driven by his determination and beliefs, Alex furthered his education at HKUST by enrolling in the MPhil program in Technology Leadership and Entrepreneurship (TLE) within the School of Engineering's Division of Integrative Systems and Design. He completed his MPhil as part of the Class of 2021. His research during this time focused on enabling smart car park adoption through a redesigned AI camera using a design thinking approach. This experience not only deepened his technical expertise but also honed his ability to apply technology in innovative ways to solve real-world problems.

Transforming Ideas into Business and Amplifying Impact

Alex's interest in entrepreneurship was sparked during his undergraduate years, where he had the opportunity to intern at various technology companies and participate in entrepreneurship competitions. These experiences were incredibly formative, helping him build essential business skills and deepening his desire to use technology for meaningful impact. Motivated by this passion, Alex first founded Coxana Innovation Limited, an education and media services company. Through Coxana, he developed courses in technology, media production, and AI, with the goal of inspiring students to embrace new technologies. His mission was to make learning both enjoyable and impactful by breaking down complex concepts into something accessible and engaging.

Building on the foundation he established with Coxana, Alex later co-founded AutoBright Company Limited. At AutoBright, he focused on implementing no-code platforms for the company’s internal management systems, leading to significant improvements in operational efficiency. These innovations contributed to the company's rapid growth, allowing it to expand from a small fleet to over 80 vehicles. Alex is particularly proud of how these efforts also strengthened the company’s online presence and drove an increase in sales. His journey from founding Coxana to co-founding AutoBright reflects his ongoing commitment to leveraging technology to drive both educational and operational excellence.

Besides, Alex has also worked on developing learning systems and platforms, like DragOnce.expert, which helps users implement no-code solutions—another small step in his ongoing commitment to advancing education through technology.

Experiences in Education

Now, Alex has educated more than 4,000 students across 2,000 hours of instruction. His approach to teaching drones integrates both theoretical knowledge and practical applications, ensuring that his students can confidently operate these devices and understand their broader implications. Additionally, Alex has accumulated over 8 years of experience in media production and innovation products, where he has honed his skills in areas such as aerial cinematography, IoT technology, and product design.
